Is it possible to buy an expensive LCD TV?
Liquid crystal display television (LCD TV) technology has come a long way in recent years. The implementation of thin file transistor (TFT) technology has removed many of the angular resolution and ghosting problems previously associated with cheap LCD televisions.
It is now possible to buy an inexpensive LCD TV that has state-of-the-art features and superior picture quality.
What is an LCD TV?
An LCD TV is a flat panel television that utilizes advanced materials technology to create a bright, attractive picture on a flat screen.
An LCD TV screen is made up of two glass plates with a thin layer of liquid crystals in between.
When electricity passes through the crystals, tiny color pixels light up to produce an image.
How do LCD TVs Compare to Plasma and Tube TVs?
In the past, plasma TVs were the only real flat panel television option.
Now, LCD televisions have progressed to the point where they can compete with plasma TVs in terms of picture quality.
LCD televisions are easier to maintain, less likely to degrade with time, and use less power than plasma TVs. And the new crop of LCD TVs have a sharper picture, require less space, and use much less electricity than tube TVs.
What are the Features of an LCD TV?
Here's a list of features found on newer model LCD TVs:
* Digital picture - the picture on an LCD screen is much sharper than on a tube TV and is now comparable to plasma TVs.
* Space saving design - LCD TVs are thinner and lighter than tube or plasma TVs, and can be set up almost anywhere.
* Widescreen format - LCD TVs utilize a widescreen format, similar to movie screens, so they are compatible with HDTV programming.
* Flat screen - LCD TV screens are flat, so there's no distortion as with tube TVs.
Where can I Buy a Cheap LCD Television?
The best way I've found to get the best deal on a television is to first check out various models at your local electronics stores and discount stores.
After you get a good idea of what you want in a TV and what's available, go online and check prices and ratings at a comparison shopping site.
With the site I use I can compare various LCD prices and find out which stores are reputable and give good service. I can also get detailed product information, ratings by electronics experts, and even consumer reviews by people who actually own the product.
Forget about sales and discount warehouses. The best way to save money on big ticket items like LCD TVs is to comparison shop online. I've saved thousands of dollars on TVs, computers, appliances, and even furniture using this method (click on the links below for more information on the site I use).

Televisions
One of the best inventions in the world of digital media, television is a telecommunicating system that transmits images, accompanied with sounds and special effects, over a long distance. The word television is derived from two words ? tele (which means "far" in Greek) and visio (which means "vision" or "sight" in Latin).
Paul Gottlieb Nipkow, a German student, proposed the first electromechanical television system in 1885. The discovery of cathode ray tubes in 1897, by K. F. Braun was a major landmark.
Later in 1927, Philo Taylor Farnsworth envisioned the first fully electronic system. He conducted the world's premier public demonstration of an all-electronic television system on August 25, 1934, at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia.
Besides Farnsworth, Vladimir Kosma Zworykin is also sometimes called the Father of the television because of his invention of iconoscope in 1923 and kinescope in 1929. On July 3, 1928, John Logie Baird demonstrated...

LCD Televisions
LCD televisions are flat panel televisions that utilize LCD technology, which is already commonly been used in cell phones, calculators, and computer monitors. LCD televisions' display screen has two parallel polarizing panels and a liquid crystal sandwiched between them. Based on the amount of voltage passed through the panels, the rod-shaped liquid crystal molecules will be untwisted to different degrees, limiting the entry of light. Thus, the crystalline layer acts a shutter that either allows or blocks the passage of light. As a result, dark and light patterns are formed on the display, which produces a magnificent picture.
A white backlighting is required in LCD televisions since the LCD pixels do not emit light as in Plasma televisions.
In this, each color pixel is generated by three sub-pixels with red, blue, and green color filters. Unlike plasma and CRT ones, LCD televisions do not have a phosphor dot coating. Hence, they are thin and require much less power...

A New DVD Format War
Just when you thought it was safe to buy a nice new all-singing all dancing DVD player/recorder, along comes a new format war to add to an already confusing marketplace.Once the original DVD standard settled down, DVD players quickly became one of the most successful consumer items of all time. The new format revitalised the home entertainment market, and hardware manufacturers benefited both directly and indirectly, as enthusiasts clamoured to buy bigger and better televisions and sound equipment to get the best from their new DVD players. Then came recordable DVD, but the problem, as is so often the case, was that there were a number of different recording standards, all of them incompatible. It was just like Betamax versus VHS all over again. Now low-cost multi-format recorders supporting all the standards are hitting the streets, the recording problem is becoming less of an issue, and so one could be forgiven for thinking that's the end of the format wars. But technology has a habit...
